How VAT per destination country is handled

VAT is applied automatically per destination country. There is nothing to configure.

Where the VAT figure comes from

  • Reported by your platform. When your store reports the VAT on an order, Klirry uses that figure as it is.
  • Worked out by Klirry. When the platform gives no usable VAT amount, Klirry works it out from the order total using the destination country's VAT rate on the order date.
  • No VAT. When an order is known to carry no VAT, for example a destination outside the VAT area, VAT is zero. This is deliberate and not an error.

An order that reports zero VAT is flagged, so you can check that the zero is right.

Why the country matters

Within the EU, VAT on sales to consumers follows the buyer's country, not yours. A sale to a country with a higher rate leaves you less profit, which is why Klirry works per country. The full method is on the methodology page.

Which platform reports VAT and which derive it is listed per connection in the guides: Shopify, WooCommerce, Quickbutik.
